  • Welcome and Introductions

Kelleigh opened the meeting and all the guests introduced themselves.

 

  • Approval of the Minutes

Motion by Dan to approve the minutes from October, 2nd by Lou. All in Favor – the motion passes.

 

  • Retreat Debriefing and next steps
    • We had a good conversation 
    • The retreat focused on the built environment and we went through a process.
    • We are going to ask the committees to go through a similar process
    • 4 categories
      1. Built environment: Commercial, Housing, Preservation, Streets
      2. Public Domain: Safety, Streets
      3. Investing in people: Workforce/ Education
      4. Marketing/ Communications: The staff are recommending creating a marketing committee
    • All steps to be complete before February 28th
  • Housing Committee – Diana Geis
    • Heather Kangas is the chair elect – she is a social worker and pigtown resident
  • Committee Reports as necessary
    • Streets: Vacant Houses are susceptible to fire – please report open vacant structures
    • Safety: Seeing people out with open fires – please report them
      1. The Gates are going well
      2. Sonia: how do we get gates – submit paperwork
    • Preservation: updates on Lord Baltimore, Malachi Mills
      1. New project: Arabber Stable on Bruce Street
        1. Scott – Motion to accept the funding to support the arabber stable – Ashley 2nd – All in favor.
    • Education: Lou thanked everyone for the opportunity to chair the committee as we welcome a new chair – Abigail Breiseth
      1. SWP was approved as lead agency for the community schools initiative. Offers for coordinators have been at 2 schools already.
      2. Looking for a bilingual CSC for Charles Carroll Barrister
  1. New Business/ Old Business
    •  Michael: We’ve been invited by Michael Braverman to apply for $800K to support homeownership zones.
      1. The funds will come from CDBG. To support the cost of renovations because it exceeds the market value.

    • Bill – MLK Corner
      1. Had a meeting October 30 with delegate Wells
      2. MLK Corner committee sending out an invite to a meeting to discuss how to proceed with possible major changes.
      3. Will invite to a meeting January 30th – Last Thursday
      4. DOT is planning an 8-foot bike and pedestrian pathway
      5. Who else should be there?
    • Curtis – Census planning group meets tomorrow – here
    • Scott – Dr Perman is getting a promotion. We should thank him for his leadership and dedication. Dr Ross also.
    • JR has been elected President of the Hollins Roundhouse Community Association. 
    • Owen of Civil Justice Inc. introduced himself – He represents the SWP in tax sales and receivership issues. He has been on the job about 2 months now.
      1. Sara Frush is the Executive Director and she also said hello.
    • Kris Hoellen – The First Mile Stable should be complete by the end of the year.
      1. They will be having an open house – Let her know if we would like a tour before then.
    • Sonia – Lacite had donuts at the Nook this morning.
