The Workforce Development Committee works to strengthen and coordinate workforce service provision in the Southwest Partnership area, connect local residents to existing workforce development resources and jobs, and develop new resources and employment opportunities as they are identified.

Southwest Works is the Southwest Partnership’s Workforce Development program, providing one on one support to community members looking for work. For more information and to make an appointment please click here.

In 2020 the Workforce Development Committee has been able to provide workforce development grants to area organizations to increase access to opportunities for area residents. These grants include funding to the University of Maryland Medical Center for free job training in high demand healthcare fields with a pipeline to employment at the hospital, to 10:12 Sports to provide workforce development support and job training opportunities to young men in their program, to the Safe Alternatives Foundation for Education for equipment for their new workforce development community center, and to Bon Secours Community Works for expanded case management services.

The Workforce Development Committee meets the first Wednesday of each month at 7pm

The Workforce Roundtable, made up of workforce provider and programs, meets the third Friday of the month at 3:00pm.

Goals

The goal of the Workforce Development Committee is to for full, appropriate employment for residents of the Southwest Partnership area at a living wage.

The Committee advances this goal through Committee projects, Southwest Works, facilitating the Southwest Partnership Workforce Roundtable, and the Workforce Development Grant Program.

The Committee’s priorities for 2021 are:

  • To help advance legislative agendas that will improve access to employment and the economic situation of residents
  • To better connect residents to existing resources through targeted outreach and engagement

Are you interested in serving on a Steering Advisory Board to develop training to engage community members in medical research? This is a two year long paid commitment and more information can be found here. If you’re interested email Curtis Eaddy at curtis@swpbal.org
