Southwest Storytelling Project
The Southwest Partnership Historic Preservation Committee is creating an archive of stories, photos, and documents celebrating and preserving the history of Southwest Baltimore. The archive will be easily accessible and will be used not only to preserve our history but also to share the history and general awesomeness of Southwest Baltimore across the city and region.
To collect these stories and photographs we are holding storytelling events across the Southwest Partnership area, recording individual stories, holding group discussions, and scanning in pictures and documents. The first event, at St Luke’s Church on Carey St between Franklin Square and Poppleton was a great success, as community members discussed schools, churches, the effects of building the Highway to Nowhere immediately to the north of the neighborhood, and what kids did for fun in the neighborhood in the sixties, eighties, and nineties.
We will be holding events every two months--check out the calendar for the latest updates!
Thanks to Ms Christine Berry of Franklin Square and her family and Ms Beverly Jacobs of Franklin Square for the above photos.
