The SAFE Alternative Foundation has partnered with Pigtown Food for Thought (PFFT) to refurbish a deteriorating “hoop house”. On Saturday, March 12th SAFE and PFFT is hosting a cleanup of the site located on the corner of West Lexington St and N. Carrollton Ave. The objective for the day is to remove all weeds, debris, plant flowers and seeds, replacing the plastic tarp on the hoop house, and get it as close to operational as possible.
As a component of SAFE’s vocational education curriculum, the hoop house will be used as a garden/urban farm where the youth will go for hands on experience planting, growing, and harvesting fruits and vegetables. There will also be limited communal space at the hoop house for residents interested in growing their personal produce.
